Call to Arms

Footy players everywhere are really getting it right this season, with a specky above anyone else, in aid of charity. Across the state, fields will be flushed with yellow on the weekend of June 23 and 24, in support of The Cancer Council Victoria and Essendon Football Club's fundraising event, Call to Arms.

Call to Arms invites all football communities around Victoria to get amongst the pack, and show support to people touched by cancer.

The Call to Arms event will see local football clubs raise funds by donning yellow armbands during matches.

The event has already called a massive number of teams to arms, with 2 200 registrations from clubs all over Victoria.

And as part of Call to Arms, the Essendon and Melbourne Footy Clubs will once again join forces to play the Clash for Cancer game at Telstra Dome.

In 2006, Clash for Cancer raised almost $60 000.

Volunteers are still needed to help sell yellow armbands and collect donations outside the venue. Volunteers will get into the match free.

Funds raised through Call to Arms will support mens cancer research, education programs, and cancer services.

The Clash for Cancer, as part of Call to Arms for The Cancer Council Victoria, is on June 29.
